The Photographer

Liz D’Alessio
Hi, I’m Liz! I’m a boudoir photographer based in Winnipeg, Canada. I’m here to help you (re)connect with yourself through fine art boudoir photography. I’m a queer and neurodivergent woman (pronouns are she/her), and my studio is a safe space for all.
I learned how to use my dad’s 35mm film camera when I was kid, and I’ve loved photography ever since! I’m self taught in all aspects of photography, from black and white film processing, to digital editing. I even worked in a professional photo lab for 6 years (a childhood dream come true :P).
I was really into photographing local bands and burlesque showcases (I danced in a few of them too!). I loved the dramatic lighting and how powerful and inspiring the performers looked. At some point I stumbled across boudoir photography, finding photos that had the same moody, dramatic lightining and powerful subject similar to what I’d see in the performance photos I took. I learned over time boudoir was more than just a pretty photo though.
Why Boudoir Photography?
I want to help people discover and reconnect with themselves.
I feel like boudoir photography confronts social conditioning: societal expectations around unrealistic beauty standards, gender roles, worthiness, personal autonomy… all these things that we feel pressured to conform to or else suffer the consequences.
Its simple: If we don’t feel good about ourselves, if we feel insecure and unsupported, we’re easier to control and manipulate.
This is what I want a boudoir session to be for you: I want a boudoir session at my studio to be a seed from which a new chapter in your life grows. The chapter where you find your way back to yourself. The chapter where you block out the noise and unrealistic expectations, where your voice says “actually, I want, I think, I am…” more often than the untrue “that’s okay”, “I guess so”, “sure” that you find yourself saying.
I think its more important than ever that people feel secure in themselves, empowered, and self-actualized. I want to cause a metamorphosis in them. And I can do that with my art.
